Chester’s shopping scene is getting a glow-up. Harrods is bringing its luxury beauty offering to town and it’s not arriving in just any old precinct, but a freshly reborn one now known as Eastgate Square.
Enter H Beauty by Harrods
Harrods, through its beauty-focused off-shoot H Beauty, has confirmed plans to open a flagship store inside Eastgate Square, occupying part of the former Browns of Chester/ex-Debenhams building on Eastgate Street.
The store will offer Harrods-style beauty experiences, including premium cosmetics, skincare, fragrance and hair products, beauty services (think treatments, make-up, possibly even workshops), plus the luxe touches the brand is known for.
It’s a big deal: the new H Beauty is expected to create around 70 full-time jobs, which will give the city centre a welcome economic boost, particularly in a building that has previously been left to deteriorate since the exit of Debenhams.
When will H Beauty (Harrods) open in Chester?
Harrods themselves say they’re “delighted” planning permission has been granted, and have revealed the store will open on 12th February 2026.
Grosvenor precinct has changed its name to ‘Eastgate Square’
The shopping area formerly known as Grosvenor Shopping Centre has officially been rebranded as Eastgate Square. The rename and accompanying makeover are part of a plan by the centre’s owners, Martin Property Group, to breathe new life into the space: brighter lighting, refreshed seating, new signage and other design updates are already underway.
According to the centre’s management, Eastgate Square aims to “reflect Chester’s heritage while embracing its future,” signalling a desire to combine the city’s historic character with a modern retail vibe.
We want Eastgate Square to feel like a place that belongs to everyone, somewhere that reflects Chester’s character and celebrates its future. The changes you’ll see across the centre in the coming months and designed to make every visit more enjoyable, more inspiring and more connected to the city we love. This is just the beginning…

What this could mean for Chester’s retail and housing vibes
With Eastgate Square and Harrods both staking a claim in Chester’s heart, this feels like a signal. It’s not just a new beauty store, but a broader push to reinvigorate the city centre with a more upmarket, aspirational feel.
- The facelift at Eastgate Square could attract shoppers who might otherwise head out to bigger cities, which is good news for footfall and for local landlords/retailers
- A high-end tenant like H Beauty gives the area a level of prestige. That could nudge other premium retailers to consider setting up in Chester, which in turn might affect demand for neighbouring flats or houses (from people wanting to live within easy reach of the shops).
- On the flip side, as shopping becomes more luxe, there’s a chance some long-standing local businesses might feel pressure and this raises the question of how the city can balance regeneration with preserving character.
In short
Chester’s central shopping quarters are getting a facelift and a fresh name. Eastgate Square represents both a nod to heritage and a step into the future. With Harrods’ H Beauty joining the mix, the city centre could be looking at a new era in retail and possibly a subtle shift in how people live and shop here.
